Johann Henrich Cressman (1683 or 1697-?1749)
Philip Balthaser Cressman (1714-1764)

"John Henrick Creytsman"/"Johan Henrich Croesman" and "Philip Balter Chreytsman"/"Philipps Balthaser Croesmann" arrived in Philadelphia aboard the Robert & Alice on 3 Dec 1740. It was recorded that John Hendrick was drunk. [Pennsylvania German Pioneers, 1727-1775].

Two theories

There are two theories regarding the identity of this Johan Henrick Creytsman. The first theory is that he was the father of Philip Balthaser, born 1683 Pfungstadt. The second theory is that he was another by the same name, who was born in 1697, who was only very distantly related to Philip Balthasar. I do not have sufficient evidence in my possession to resolve this difference. The identity of the Philip Balthaser is not disputed.

Johann Henrich6 Croesman (Henrich6-Jakob5- Clos4-Phillip3-Hans2-Cristen1) was born about 1683 in Pfungstadt, the son of Johann Jakob Croesmann (c1657-1705), mayor of Pfungstadt, and Anna Barbara Fey (1661-1724). He was married 4 May 1713 in Pfungstadt to Anna Veronika Hoffmann of Ulrichstein, who died about 1724, daughter of Johann Hoffman [see Bergert, 1995, pg. 7; Pfungstadt Lutheran Church Archives #136 in "Gold Book"].

The date of death of Henrich is not yet established. Under the assumption that he was the one on the Robert & Alice, his may be the will of Henry Cressman filed in 1749 in Philadelphia, which I have not yet had a chance to examine.

Johann Henrich6 Croesmann (Henrich6-Henrich5- Clos4-Clos3-Christen2-Christen1) was born on 10 Sep 1697 in Pfungstadt. He was the son of Henrich Croesmann (1564-1723), cooper & brewer, and Anna Ursula Schwoerer. Some descendants settled in Bucks Co., Pa.

Philip Balthasar7 Cressman (Philip7-Henrich6-Jakob5- Clos4-Phillip3-Hans2-Cristen1), the only known child of Henrich and Veronika, was born on 2 Feb 1714 (bp. 4 Feb, sponsor Philipps Balthasar Groesmann) in Pfungstadt. He took the oath of Sacrament in Philadelphia on 13 Mary 1747 [Penn. Archives (1967), series 2, Vol. II, p. 27]. He married (1) 1738 Anna Felicitas (Phyllis) Seidel (28 Sep 1715-aft 31 Mar 1746), dau. of Johannes Seidel, Carpenter, and Elisabeth Marsteller. He m(2) 25 Apr 1751 in Molatton, Mont Co., Pa to Anna Maria Fuchsin. He settled in Amity Twp., Berks Co (44 miles from Philadelphia, 14 miles from Reading). His administration was filed in Philadelphia in 1764.
