Info on him and his family is in Hills's "Planters" Vol. 2, pg 78.
He was enormously wealthy for the times, being called "Golden Thomas". He paid Henry VIII a large fine to be excused from accepting the "Order of Bath", and in 1528 obtained a license from the King to remain covered in the royal presence. This cost him a small fortune, but it must have given him a lot of personal satisfaction.
