Nealley town clerk". ------------------------------------- Research / Leads: In the Monroe Twp., vital records, the family record for Alvah York and Eliza Ann York shows the birth of Walter Edwin on July 15th, 1845, and the death of Jeremiah York on April 28, 1844. The record for Jeremiah York is indented, in the position that children are normally listed. But, the death predates the marriage of Alvah York and Eliza Ann King, and not corresponding birth record for Jeremiah is found. It also now appears to not be his father, since Lydia, the widow of Jeremiah York of Frankfort, filed a petition for administration on 5 Aug 1857 stating that Jeremiah died on 28 June 1857 (not 28 Apr 1844). His father-in-law (Sparrow King) appears in Monroe Twp., Waldo Co., Maine, in the 1820 and 1830 censuses. There is one York listed in the 1830 census in that township -- Archibald York, p.384. I was unable to locate Archibald York in the census for Maine or NH in either 1810 or 1820. Archibald is listed in the town vital records for Monroe Twp. -- he was not the father of Alvah. The Annals of Oxford, Maine, p. 238, show the family of Jeremiah and Lydia York in Hebron, Oxford Co., Maine, with the following children: 1. Ira b.1806 2. Ephelet, 1808 3. Alvah, b. Apr 3, 1812 <----- 4. Betsey, b. 1814 5. Pauline, 1815 6. Lydia, 1817 7. Jeremiah, 1818 8. Ruth, 1820 9. Sally, 1822 10. Josiah, 1824 Thanks to Ann Alexander <bnaalex@clinic.net> for finding and making me aware of this reference, Nov 1997. The way it was stated, it is possible that the children, or some of them, might have been born elsewhere, e.g., NH. At this point, until more info is found, this is just a lead. In response to my query, Mark Richards <mricha@ma.ultranet.com> says he has an Abigail York (1756-1856) who married Tristram Richards in Middleton, NH and moved to Oxford ME in 1827. Joyce <geneolgy@ime.net> is also descended. Mark is descended from their son Stephen of Upton ME. This looks like a possible connections, and further lends credence to the theory that Jeremiah of Oxford may have come from NH. !Death: FindAGrave.com has Alvah York b. 3 Apr 1812, d. 8 Feb 1866 at Lakota Cemetery, Lakota, Nelson Co., North Dakota. However, the death date is in conflict with the fact that he was listed alive in the 1880 census, s the transcription must be in error. Maybe it is a transcription error that should have been 8 Feb 1886.
