The following condemnation appears in the Middletown Monthly Meeting records, in the Women's meetings of 5 5th mo and 2 6th mo 1716: ffrom our Men and Women's Monthly Meetnig in Middletown in Bucks County the 6th of the 7th month 1716, Whereas shee that was lately known by the name of Mary Couper (Widow of Henry Couper deceased being then owned as one of our Society) hath been for some time since concerned in Intent of Marriage with Lancelot Strawhen one who was never owned amongst us, And although shee was seasonably advised by friends and Relations both publickly and in private, And often exhorted both by the Overseers of the Meeting and other frields not to be concerned with him in that respect, And much labour and paines being taken with her to bring to a sense of friends dissatisfaction with the matter, yet still Shee resisted all their advice adn Councell, And now at last hath marryed the said Lancelot Strawhen contrary to the order and Method of our Society; Wee do therefore give forth this as a Testimony against her for her Misdemeaner, And do disown her (by the name of Mary Strawhen) to be any more of our Society untill she come to a true sight of her disorder, and a sincere Repentance for the same, which we heartily wish for the good of her Immortal Soul.
