Richard Gatewood, Amherst Co." ["Amherst Co., Va., Rec in Rev War", by Sweeny]: Richard a pvt in Capt. Wm Tucker's Co. Richard was s constable in Amherst Co. in 1778 On 23 Feb 1793, he bought 100 acres on Deep Creek, Elbert Co., Georgia, from George Evans. Wit: Robert Loveman. !Will: Dated 10 Dec 1789, probated 4 Dec 1794 Elbert Co., Georgia: "In the name of God, Amen, I indent with God's leave to go to Georgia. It may please God I never return. If not, it is my desire that after all my debts & funeral accounts is paid all the rest of my est I lend to my wife enduring her widowhood all but as much as those children not married to have equal to those that is married & at her death or widowhood to be equally divided.
