Notes

From Abstracts of Rev. War Pension Files: "GORE, Eleazar or Eleazer or Eleazor, S35978, SC Line, sol enl in Chester Co SC, appl 24 Jun 1818 Caldwell Co KY, in 1824 he was living in Trigg Co KY with a wife aged 70 & his children were all of age & had families of their own (none were named), sold 14 feb 1830, in 1820 Joshua Gore of Johnson Co IL had srv with Eleazer Gore & that they were neighbors when at home, no relationship was stated." In Feb 1776, while living in Chester Dist., SC, he enlisted and served under Capt. Richard Winn and Colonel Thomson in the Rangers. He was at the battle of Sullivan's Island. Afterwards, he served in the militia. Note: I have no direct proof that Eleazer was the father of John Gore, but it is the natural inference to make. In 1784, he inherited from his father 250 acres of land with the plantation where his parenst lived, with the plantation and 50 acres to be his after his mother's decease. In 1789, his mother bequeathed him "all teh money he owes me being about twenty seven pounds Sterling money". He was also named as co-executor of his mother's estate. !Census 1790: Chester Dist, SC 2-4-3-0-0. Note: Others there in 1790 include James 2-3-5-0-0, John 1-2-3-0-0, John 2-3-3-0-0, & Joshua 1-2-7-0-0. I don't see him in Chester Co., SC in the 1800 census. !Census 1810: Chester Dist., SC 23 Aug 1820: Eleazer Gore appears in the second term of the circuit court of Trigg Co., Ky, held at the house of Robert Baker on this date. Also present is Ashford D. Gore. [History of Trigg County, chapter 2, http://www.kyseeker.com/trigg/history/chap2.html] Note: his parents' wills establish his parentage, and the 23 Aug 1820 record with his brother John Ashford Gore (also named in the wills) establishes that the Eleazer Gore in the wills is the as the person in Trigg County, Ky. --------------- Research & leads: * Several uncorroborated sources list his wife as Elizabeth Murray (1760-1834) and his parents as James Gore Jr. and Elizabeth Dowden. Birthyear estimates range from 1747 to 1757, and birthplaces found include Frederick Co., Maryland, Horry S.C., Brunswick SC, Roxbury, Suffolk Co., Mass (!), and others. All are unreliable & undocumented sources so far, such as pedigree resource files and LDS member submissions in IGI. One submission lists his parents as James Gore and Elizabeth Ashford. * James Gore Jr., named above, allegedly was b. 1707. His parents, James Gore 1 b. 1670, and Mary Burke, may have come from Ireland aboard the 2nd Lord Baltimore. * [http://uhp.future.easyspace.com/genealogy/franklin/d0000/g0000052.html] gives a parentage for Elizabeth Dowden of John Dowden and Esther Ashford, a marrige date to James Gore of 1727] Prince George Co., Maryland [sites Kathy Houck] and lists 11 children.
