Notes

The parentage of Nathaniel accepted here comes from the research of Richard Sweet Rice, fruits of which has been passed through his son Bill to Jo Rice to me. Records in Research & Leads are consistent with this and were obtained independently, but were insufficient to just to this conclusion. The full records backing this conclusion have yet to be verified by me.. _______________ Research & Leads: * The following notes were found on a now defunct web site -- it appears that it could be refering to the same Nathaniel Brush... "May shows husband as Nathaniel Brush but Descendants of Thomas and Richard Brush of L.I. by Stuart Brush, c. 1982 says May had the wrong Elizabeth. Nathaniel's wife probably was a Sears and perhaps an Elizabeth as in 1810 Nathaniel's father, Philip, nearest neighbors in Ridgefield were Comfort Sears, Knowles Sears and Isaac Sears." * The Elizabeth Sears in question in the above quote was Elizabeth b. 26 Nov 1790, dau. of Knowles Sears (Elizabeth-Knowles-James-Silas-Silas-Richard). The belief of that author is that that Elizabeth Sears actually married Joseph Bennett Brush, b. 26 May 1786 in Huron, NY, d. 30 Apr 1858 Ridgebury, CT. * State papers of Vermont, Vol II: Vermont Charters, P.H. Gobie Press Inc., 1922 (http://freepages.books.rootsweb.com/~teking/orphans/vt_grants.htm) , has the Charter of Fletcher Twp., which includes name Nathaniel Brush. * A Nathaniel Brush is found on the tax rolls of the town of Amenia, Dutchess Co., NY, in 1765 & 1766. He is not found there in 1757 or 1767. In 1770, Reubin, Richard and Samuel Brush are there. No Sears are found on those lists. [http://www.ajcockrell.com/census/ameniany/Amenia_1Page30.html] * Suffolk Co., NY finds many Brushes. (http://www.rootsweb.com/~nysuffol/) Old Huntington Cemetery has several (http://www.rootsweb.com/~nysuffol/ohcem.html), with no obvious connection. * As per AF, a Nathaniel Brush b. 5 Jan 1746 d. bef 1794 m. 1 Jan 1775 Hannah Platt, all events in Huntington, Suffolk Co., NY. Note the surname Platt. A son, Stephen Brush, listed as b. c1776 in Huntingdon, LI,NY. This Nathaniel3-Ananias2-Samuel1. However, as a red flag for reliability, also note that AF shows him as a descendant of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower, but "Mayflower Families" Vol.6 doesn't even accept the first generation of that purported descent, let alone the incorrect wife of Stephen Hopkins shown there that has since been disproven.
