Notes

Everett Hall Pendleton (1910) Says of her: "216. Desire Pendleton (James5, James4, Caleb3), born 27 February, 1738/9, Stonington, Conn.; married at Westerly, R.I., 9 January, 1755, Stephen Niles (T.R.). No record of her chlidren has so far come to light. The late Hosford B. Niles of New York City in a letter to Charles H. Pendleton of Westerly, 1894, stated that soon after 1788 a Stephen Niles of Rhode Island, who had been a Captain in the Revolution, settled at Alburg, Vt. He had children, Nathan, Paul, Sands, Prudie, Eunice, and Desire. We lack evidence, however, to state that these were chlidren of Desire (Pendleton) Niles, although such may have been the case.
