Appeared in Plymouth in 1631, and lived there thereafter. !Will: Dated 6/16 March 1667/8. Appears printed in Mayf.Des.4:98. In the will he calls Henry Samson's wife (Ann Plummer) his cousin. It is recorded in the Plymouth Colony Wills and Inventories, Vol. III, Part I, page 31. Probate occurred on 29 Oct 1671, so he died between March 1667 and Oct 1671. His will mentions wife Joan Barnes and son Jonathan Barnes, executors, grandson John Marshall, cousin wife of Henry Samson, daughter Lyddyah deceased, & kinswoman Ester Ricket. Death: Robert Ward reports his date and that he was gored by a bull. His children are also mentioned in a land deed dated 24 Aug 1651 [Shurtleff 12:214-215], with excerpts as follows: "Know all men by these presents that I John Barnes of Plymouth ...upon speciall consideration moving mee therunto doe think meet to bestow som part of my Cattell upon my Children in manor and forme following I give and make over by these presents unto my deare Children videlecet Jonathan Mary Hanna Lidia to mares with theire two Coults of this yeare one of the said mares being at Eastham and the other at Plymouth [also some sheep with half their offspring going to William Nelson] ... to bee and Remayne as a stocke for my said Children and incase my said Children shall decease before they bee of age or bee married [the remaining] shalbee divided equally... I do ... envest my trusty and welbeloved frinds Constant Southworth of Duxburrow leiuetenant Tho Southworth of Ply and Josiah Cook of Eastham with full power & authoritie to oversee and despose of the aforsaid Cattell ..." Signed 24 AUg 1651 in presence of Nathaniell Morton and Gyles Rickard. Then on 14 Oct 1651 [Shurtleff 12:215] he modified the terms slightly, mentioning the same children, and with "Mr. Tho: howes of Yarmouth", "John Crocker of Barnstable", and "John Willis of Duxburrow" caring for some of the Cattle. LAND: ----- 4 Aug 1638: Sells Robert Bartlett the indenture of Thomas Shreive (3 years remaining) in exchange for 20 bushells of Indian Corne in March. [Shurtleff 12:32] 23 Jun 1639: Buys 4 acres at the "High Pynes" from John Winslow of Plymouth for 8 pounds (called John Barnes yeoman of [Plymouth]). [Shurtleff 12:45] 20 Jul 1639: Sells the 4 acres at the "High Pynes" to Mr. Robert Hicks of Plymouth for 9 pounds and 15 shillings. [Shurtleff 12:45] 6 Nov 1639: Buys 2 acres at "Turkey Poynt" from Edward Holman for 40 shillings. [Shurtleff 12:49] 5 Aug 1640: Buys 2 acres of upland at Wellingsley brooke from John Combe and Phineas Pratt which they got by marrying the daughters of Goodbert Godbertson. [Shurtleff 12:61] 5 Oct 1640: Buys house in Plymouth and Marsh at Wood Island from Josias Winslowe for 52 pounds [Shurtleff 12:63] 26 Nov 1640: Buys land upon the Eele River and house from Marke Mendlove for 12 pounds. [Shurtleff 12:64] 15 Jan 1641: Buys Wellingsly Brooks house, land, and 20 of 50 apple trees from Mr. Thomas Hill for 20 pounds [Shurtleff 12:68-9]. 10 Feb 1641: Sells land purchased earlier from Marke Mendlove to William Baker, for 6 pounds annually for three years. [Shurtleff 12:69] 30 Dec 1642: Sells land at Wellingsly Brook previously purchased from Thomas Hill to Edward Edwards for 16 pounds. [Shurtleff 12:87] 30 Oct 1644: Sells land and house to Edward Edwards previously purchased from Thomas Hill, Phineas Pratt, and Thomas Whitney for 9 pounds 2 shillings [Shurtleff 12:88] 6 Apr 1649: Releases "Gorg Bonham of all debts dews and demaunds from the beginning of the world to this present day." [Shurtleff 12:166] 18 Apr 1649: Sells to "Gorg Bonum of Plymouth aforsaid husbandman" land at fishing point at the mouth of the Eel River formerly purchased from Mark Mendum for 3 pounds plus 20 shillings the next year plus corn for three additional years. 3 Sep 1649: Sells Mr Thomas Wallis of Plymouth, Merchant, something [unreadable] for 50 pounds.
