His father is identified by Edward Brandt Latimer of Columbia SC in an e-mail message to me on June 13 1995 by Paul Helman who had corresponded with Ed.

James Latimer and Mary Brandt were entrusted with the guardianship of two orphans, Ann & William Fairfax (note that Lawrence Washington, guardian of George Washington, lived directly across the Potomac from them at Mt. Vernon, virtually direct neighbors). Ann & Wm were the children of John Fairfax.
James Latimer owned a property called "Maycock's Rest", which descended to Marcus Latimer (his grandson, son of James)
