Came over on the Ann in 1623.
He may have been the Nicholas Snow who was baptised on 25 Jan 1599 at St. Leonard's in London. This parish adjoins St. Mary's, Whitechapel, where Stephen Hopkins (his father-in-law) married his second wife.
He was made freeman in 1633. He was named in 1634 to lay out higways at Plymouth, and he served there as arbitrator, surveyor of highways and on juries. By 1645 he had settled at Eastham where he served as clerk, selectman, deputy, constable, highway surveyor, excise collector, and on court committees.
His will is dated 14 Nov 1676 and proved 5 March 1677.

Notes:
!Death: Will dated 23 July 1746, proved 9 Sep 1747. Names "my beloved wife Emary Cole", Benj
amin and Rufus "my sons" and "my natural children" Ebenezer, Hannah Snow, Israel, Silvanus, Dorcas Burgis and Emery Cole. Daugher Hannah Snow received land purchased from Israel Higgins at Great Neck.
!Burial: Israel is supposed to be buried in the Old Cove Cemetery at Eastham. In the 1940s, Louise Palen was there, and Alice Lowe the then town historian pointed out his approximate grave site. The stone is gone, or was as recently as the 1990s. [Info from Margaret Sharp]
Austin's MFTFG did not correctly print the abstract of his will, missing this distinction between "natural children" and "my sons".
One theory is that Israel had two wives, Emary being the second, and his "natural chldren" being from his first wife. One other variant of this theory is that Benjamin and Rufus were sons of Emary by her first marriage and adopted by Israel Cole. The naming of one natural daughter "Emery" may indicate a possible family connection between the two wives, e.g., perhaps they were sisters.
In support of these theories, Margaret Sharp reports to me that a late cousin, Louise Palen (desc. of Nathaniel Cole Jr. through son James Henry Cole) wrote that she visited Eastham in the late 1940s and spoke with the then Eastham Town Historian about the children of Israel Cole II. Louise was told that Israel had two wives and
that two of the sons went by the name Cole but that they were children of the second wife and adopted by Israel.
The other theory is that Emary was Israel's only wife and the mother of all his children, and that the usage of "natural" hae some other connotation at the time that we are misinterpreting.

Notes:
According to Mayflower Families Vol. 6 (Stephen Hopkins), p. 178, a Family historian suggest
s her surname was Hoag [Note that John Hoog of Newbury and Amesbury m. Ebenezer Emery and had children rec. at Newbury 1669-87.] Bowman suggests that Emary's surname was Hallett.
Mike Kelly of Sunnyvale has advocated that her name was actually Mary Emary, and that she was a daughter of Jonathan Emary of Salem, Mass., a granddau. of John Emary.
The wife of Israel Cole was dismissed from the church at Harwich in April 1710. This may suggest that Israel's (first) wife was from Harwich and a member of the church there, and that they married shortly prior to April 1710, afterwhich she left Harwich to live with her new husband in Eastham.
Margaret Sharp has pointed out that there is a good probability Israel may have had two wives. She informed me that Austin's Mayflower Families thru five generations, Vol. 6, edition 1 & 2, omits the detail about Israel Cole's will, namely that he calls Benjamin and Rufus "my sons" and calls Ebenezer, Hannah, Israel, Silvanus, Dorcas and Emery his "natural children". It may be that the natural children were from a first wife and that Benjamin and Rufus were children of Emery and the rest were of his first wife. The naming of one of the "natural" children Emery could indicate that Emery might be a sister of Israel's first wife.

!Inventory: 23 July 1724 at Barnstable and 27 July 1724 at Eastham & Truro.
He is said to have been the wealthiest man in Eastham at the time of his death, and his funeral was reported in both the New England Courant and the Boston News Letter, viz: "In return for his father's extraordinary frugality in his life and good will at his death, Israel Cole Jr., ordered themost magnificent internment for him that has been known in New England, which was peformed in the following manner: The corpse being enclosed in a beautiful coffin was decently laid in a sled, and drawn to the grave by a yoke of oxen, who not withstanding they supplied the place of potters and pall bearers, and had neither gloves, scarves nor rings for their trouble, yet 'tis not doubted but this neglect is entirely owing to the traders in these parts, who deal in such funeral ornaments as are fit only for humane beings. The heir attended the funeral without anything of mourning apparel which must be attributed to a generous scorn of the deceitful pomp and glory of hypocritical mourners, and not to any narrowness of spirit in him, whose spacious soul extends to the uttermost bounds of his land and to the very bottom of his chests." The paper concluded with this epitaph:
"Here lies Old Cole, but how or why
He lived, or how he came to die,
His son and heir may best declare it,
Who's doubly blest with his Father's spirit,
And who, when'er he comes to breath all,
His useless breath away, and leave all,
To such another son and heir
He may be thrown ... but God knows where,
Perhaps in some black chymist's dark hole,
Where out of wood he extracts charcoal."

Notes:
Her surname is noted as "unknown" in Mayflower Families Vol. 6. On pg. 24, they say she ha
s been called a Collier "but such identification is unlikely".
It is given as "Ruth Chester" in Cape Cod Series Vol. 2 by L.C.Hills, pg. 59.
!Death: MD 6:204 (in the sixty seaventh year of her age)
On 15 Oct 1659, William Collier gave land to his "son in law Daniell Cole" [MD 14:29]. This suggests that Ruth may be a daughter of William and Jane (Clark) Collier. However, it is very possible that the term "son in law" was not a correct designation, and that the Daniel Cole named there might have had a different relationship, such as grandson or adopted son. Also, after William Collier's death, on 29 October 1671 the court gave Daniel Cole all remaining of his estate [PCR 5:80].

There is also a James Cole in Plymouth. In 1706, he was admitted to the Plymouth Church "Jun

(thus born bef 1626) I don't know where he fits in, but it would seem he was about the same age as daniel, job, and john. This same James Cole is in this record [ibid, 22:204]: "abigail Cole ye wife of Aged Jaems Cole was admittd in her old Age Septr 28th [1707]" And the death (1709): "James Cole Octobr 4th 1709 in ye 85th of his Age: a Very pious Man" [ibid 22:209] Later same page: "abigail Cole ye widow of James Cole Febr 21st in 77th year of her Age"

Notes:
He is said to have come to New England at the age of ten and to have lost the sight of an ey
e by an arrow. He was resident at Eastham in 1653 and made a freeman of Plymouth Colony 1 June 1658. (Birthdate estimate of c1627 is based on his arrival on the "Mary Anne" on 20 June 1637 at about age 10. That he was the Thomas Paine Jr. listed on that ship's passenger list is highly likely but not absolutely proven.)
He served as surveyor of highways for Eastham in 1662. On 5 June 1671 he was named water bailiff of Plymouth Colony and served many years in that post, requiring him to regulate fishing at Cape Cod. On 8 June 1664 he was named deputy to the Plymouth Colony Court and served serveral times through 1690. He walso served Eastham as treasurer, clerk, and selectman. In 1696 he represented that town at the General Court and on 14 March of that year purchased a home in Boston. He presumably resided there until he sold the place on 13 Oct 1697 and moved back to Eastham. He was a cooper and builder of mills.
His will was dated 12 May 1705 and proved 2 Oct 1706. Mentioned son Nicholas Paine, dau. Mary wife of Israel Cole, and Samuel Paine and Thomas Paine (executors). Also Elisha Paine, John Paine, James Paine, Joseph Paine, Dorcas Vickerie (wife of Benjamin), and three eldest children of dau. Mary (wife of Israel Cole) viz. James Rogers, Mary Cole, and Abigail Yeats.
NEHGR 47:186: He came from Kent, England, in 1622, age 10 or 12.
From LCCH&G#70: Truro, he m. 1658; Constable in Eastham 1655 and freeman 1658. As the Irish say of a man with a great versatility of talents, "He was a man of great parts." Representative, deputy, treasurer, superintendent of building the meeting-house, cooper and millwright; he seems to have been able to build a mill as easily as a barrell. He had a good education and was a splendid penman, a faculty that runs through all the generations. He retired from public service 1697, in which he had been employed nearly half a century.
He had purchased a home at the South End, Boston, 1695, returned to Eastham where he died 1706.
LCCH&G#32: Early settlers of Eastham -- Says his name first appears upon the records as a constable of Eastham 1653. In 1655 he was mentioned as one of the 19 men then townsmen. He was propounded at the Colony Court at Plymouth in 1658 and June 1, that year, was admitted as Freeman. In 1662 he was appointed with Nicholas Snow, Jonathan Sparrow and Giles Hopkins to view and lay out the meadow between Namskaket and Silver Springs, then within the limits of Eastham, to those of the inhabitants that were entitled to the same; and the same year, with Giles Hopkins, was selected a surveyor of highways. In 1664, for the first time, he was chosen deputy to the Plymouth Colony Court and a juryman.
In 1667, with 11 others, he was called to investigate the cause of deaths of Robert Chappell, James Nichols and James Pidell, of Captain John Allen's company, who were put ashore at Cape Cod. The same year he was allowed by the Colonial court to select a tract of land for his use, and in June, 1669, he was allowed with Experience Mitchell, Henry Sampson [prob. the same person as Henry Samson] and Thomas Little, to purchase land at Namskaket, now Middleboro.
Sometime previous to 1695, he rem. to Boston where the records say he purchased fro mThomas Stableford of Philadelphia, Mar 14 1694, a homestead at the South end, paying the sum of 130 pounds. Here he was residing in 1697. Selling out this year to Eleazer Darby, he returned to Eastham, to his house at Kescayogansett, where it is supposed he spent the remainder of his life, passing away Aug 16, 1706. His will bears the date May 12, 1705. It was presented for probate Oct 2, 1706. He mentions 7 sons: Samuel, Thomas, Elisha, John, Nicholas, James, and Joseph; two daughters: Dorcas, wife of Benjamin Vickery of Hull, and Mary, wife of Israel Cole.

Thomas Paine (1586-1650) from England, with his son Thomas, to Plymouth, Mass., 1621; settled at Yarmouth; freeman 1639; 1st dep. to Gen. Ct. Married Margaret, dau. of Sir Thomas Pultney.
However, this second thomas is questionable. First of all, the only known ship to arrive in 1621 was the Fortune with its 35 passengers (number from writings of Bradford and Winslow), and the passenger list did not include either Thomas Paine.
