Came to America from England in the ship Welcome, 1682, headed by William Penn. There were 100 passengers listed upon departure. Small pox broke out and 60 were buried at sea. He came with his wife, daughter, and daughter's 5 small children from her first marriage.
No record of his birth has yet been found. However, his close association with his brothers Thomas and Edward, and his mother, has led historians to the conclusion that he was a son, probably the eldest son, of Edward and Joan (?Bagham) Buckman. Of these associations, he is listed along with his mother & siblings in the goods loaded on the ship in 1682 bound for PA. He also inherited the land rights of his brothers Edward and Thomas when they died without issue.
In the history of Bucks Co., PA, general W.W.H. Davis states that William's family spent their first winter in a cave south of Fallsington. There is also a strong tradition among the Strawn family that their ancestors (usually supposed to have been Strawns) lived out the first winter in a cave on the bank of the Delaware.

Notes:
After the death of her husband Edward, she did not remarry. She embarked on the ship Welcom
e to America in 1682, along with her son William & his family, her sons Edward and Thomas, and her daughter Ruth. On that trip small pox broke out, killing 60 of the 100 passengers. Since no records of them have been found in America, it is presumed that Joan and her sons Edward and Thomas were among the casualties.

He was a Captain of the Guard at the Coronation of Henry VIII, April 25, 1509. He was the fir

From him the surname "Meyrick", signifying "Guardian", is derived as a surname, in pursuance to an act of Henry VIII, requiring that the name of every man at the time should be born by his descendants as a surname. There were no surnames before that time in Wales. He married Margaret, daughter of Roland, Rector of Aberffraw, Anglesey, Wales. His will is dated Nov. 30, 1538.

Elaine Rulmer sent me an email on Jan 3, 1998, in which she identifies her ancestor, James Larkins b. 1749 Frederick Co., Maryland, m. 1793 Lancaster PA to Cathiline Keiger Gerlinger, and d. 1828 in Harrison Co., Ohio. She says that when this James applied for his pension, three people signed affadavits as knowing him, his age, and being in war with him, and all three came from Sommerset Co., Pennsylvania. Based on this, she believes that her James Larkins is the James Larkins of Turkeyfoot Twp. -- and thus the father of William E. Larkins. This theory, however, does have a few problems. First is William E. Larkins was b. in Tennessee, but her James Larkins was not known to have lived in Tennessee. Also, her James would have been 45 years old when William E. was born, which is a little on the older side. Currently there is nothing substantial to either confirm or refute this theory, so it does remain a good lead.
More details from Elaine: Her James Larkins had: 1. James b. 1784, 2. John b. 1794, 3. Seth b. 1794, 4. Thomas Calvin b. 1799 (her ancestor), 5. Elizabeth/Betsy b. 1806 (and she believes perhaps William E.). Her James said he was 62 in 1820 while applying for a pension (ie b.1758) & his wife was 60. At that time, he had three children at home, a son 21 (b.1799), son 18 (b.1802), and daughter 14 (b.1806). He applied for the pension while living in Cadiz, Harrison Co., OH, and explained his life & times in OH. Signers of his affadavits were Felix Duffel, Thomas Little, and Capt. William Paul, all living in Sommerset Co. Elaine has not yet found his will, but has found a reference saying that the son Seth was the executor.
Full copy of pension papers in possession of Lonnie Chrisman (and fully transcribed by Lonnie Chrisman). Note: As of Jan 5, 1856, it is testified that the only living children of James Larkins, dec'd, are Betsey Cook of Wyandot Co., Ohio, and James Larkins of Green Co., Ohio.
Rosalee Pleis faxed me a copy of a handwritten bounty land claim, transcribed as follows:
War Department; Section of M. Bty Lands & Pensions February 17th, 1813
By the Records in this Office it appears that a Warrant to satisfy the claim of James Larkins (who was a Soldier in the Pennsylvania Line of the late Revolutionary Army of the United States) was issued to Michael Steven Afs. under the number 9837 dated March 10th 1795.
P. Nat Cutting
The Warrant is in favor of Michael Michael Stever Afs of James Larkins, the later wants to know by what authority the former attained the Warrant -- that information tis ?preserved ?may be ?hav at the War Department.
!Bounty Land Warrant Record Card. Faxed of original to me Nov 1998. Transcribed as follows:
The National Archives, form VAN-51 12-3-41; BOUNTY LAND WARRANT RECORD CARD*; Division of Veterans' Administration Archives.
Name: Larkins, James Grade: Private Line: Pennsylvania Warrant Number: 9837 Acreage: 100 Issued: March 10, 1795 to Michael Stever, assignee.
* The information concerning the issuance of warrants carded on this form is found in volumes 2 to 4 of "Land Warrants Issued Prior to 1800" which are registers of bounty land warrants issued to non-commissioned officers and privates under congressional resolutions of September 16, 1776, and subsequent dates. Other records relative to the applications for warrants appear to have been destroyed in the War Department fire of November 6, 1800. Information concerning warrants surrendered to the Federal Government is to be found in General Land Office records in the National Archives.
The intestate estate settlement of James Larkins, 1828 is in Harrison Co., OH case #280 (it is not in Hamilton Co.). From [Index to Ohio Wills & estates]
Note that James Larkins is NOT found on the PA census of 1790. This is suggestive that he might not have been in Lancaster at the time -- could he have been in Tennessee for a short while around that time period?

n't really have much info on her parentage, just had those names, so I don't know how reliable they are.

Freeman thinks he was John King of Sandwich.
Joined church at Harwich, 14 Sep 1701 [Freeman 494, MFR 4:245] !Will: Dated 18 Nov 1752, proved 1 May 1753. Mentions wife (but gives no name), heirs of son John, heirs of dau. Joanna Cole, dau. Bashua Rider, heirs of son Samuell, son Roger, grandson Stephen King, and son Ebenezer.
Cattle mark at Eastham, 1688.
He settled in Harwich in 1701, coming prior from Eastham.
The Boston Post Boy of 25 June 1753 reported: "We are informed from Harwich in County of Barnstable that Mr. John King lately died there, aged 105 years; he was born in Old England and had lived in Harwich about 70 years." [MF 6:64]
John King is said to have been at Eastham by 1686. He signed a reciept with other heirs of Stephen Snow (his father-in-law) on 21 May 1706.
He bought land at Harwich from Indians on 11 May 1711 and was a proprietor there.
!Will: John King of Harwich, dated 18 Nov 1752, proved 1 May 1753, Names beloved wife (without given name), and distributed residuary estate in 1/7 shares to the following: Heirs of son Samuel, heirs of son John, heirs of dau. Joanna Cole, grandson Stephen King, son Roger, son Ebenezer, and dau. Bashua Ryder. Son Roger filed an account 5 Feb 1754.
Note: Although it was published only about 2 months after his death, the Boston Post Boy article's claim that he was 105 years old at his death looks highly suspicious. If true, it would indicate a birth of about 1647, or nearly 17 years older than his first wife. It would mean he had children from age 43 to 67, which is a little aged.
Various web pages identify his parents as Samuel King (b. 29 Aug 1649) and Sara, and his grandfather as a Samuel King who was in Plymouth in 1643. I have no records to substantiate this. Note: I have found at least one web site that contradicts this theory, http://www.journeyback.com/DUNHAM/fam00310.htm, which lists a son John King born 16 Mar 1682/3, which would be far too late to be the current individual.
