West, Dutchess Co., NY, fiche 6093801 (7 copies), "Francis West (Dutchess Co. & Stillwater, NY) & Geo. Coburn Fam. -- Francis West lived in Dutchess Co. and Stillwater, New York. His second son, Peter West (1768-1856), married Prudence Niles and immigrated from Dutchess County, New York to west Brome."
The author is Vivian West Borberg. On Amazon (but no copies avail) there is a listing: "Addendum to Always westward: History of the Francis West adn George Coburn families". (1988)
A death notice for this author was printed in the Search Family Newsletter: d. 8 Jun 2000.

Everett Hall Pendleton (1910) Says of her: "216. Desire Pendleton (James5, James4, Caleb3), b orn 27 February, 1738/9, Stonington, Conn.; married at Westerly, R.I., 9 January, 1755, Stephen Niles (T.R.). No record of her chlidren has so far come to light. The late Hosford B. Niles of New York City in a letter to Charles H. Pendleton of Westerly, 1894, stated that soon after 1788 a Stephen Niles of Rhode Island, who had been a Captain in the Revolution, settled at Alburg, Vt. He had children, Nathan, Paul, Sands, Prudie, Eunice, and Desire. We lack evidence, however, to state that these were chlidren of Desire (Pendleton) Niles, although such may have been the case.

He moved to Rhode Island as a young man, and resided at South Kingston. He was a Captain o f the militia during King Phillips war, as well as Justice of the Peace and Grand Juror in 1687, and a member of the Rhode Island Assembly in 1705. He owned plantations at South Kingston and Block Island.

The book by Everett Hall Pendleton (1910) says of him:
"James5 Pendleton, Jr., (James4, Caleb3) was born 21 November, 1710, at Westerly, R.I., and died there in 1792. He removed to Stonington, Conn., shortly after the birth of his first child, and bought land there of Benajah Billings for ¹155 on the 14th of May, 1742. He continued to live in that town until 1753, when on the 6th of July of that year he sold his property to his half-brother, Thomas Pendleton, for ¹2100 and returned to Westerly. In 1757, he paid a tax there of 7s. 10d. The Rhode Island Census of 1774 shows him as a resident of that town with a family consisting of three mailes over 16 and one female over 16 -- evidently his wife. He son Simeon and himself would account for two of these males, but the third one is unkonwn -- his son, Ichabod, being deceased, and James, 3rd, having a family of his own -- unless his grandson, Joseph-7 Pendleton, bron 1754, survived till then and was brought up in James' family. On the 6th of December, 1791, James Pendleton of Westerly was drawn as a grand juror (Westerly "Town Meetings", i.v., 119).
The will of James-5 Pendleton, dated at Westerly, R.I., 10 October, 1792 (C. & P. Rec., v, 218), names wife Abigail; sons, Simeon and James; daughters, Desire, wife of Stephen Niles, and Hannah, wife of David Wilbur. Inventory was taken 12 January, 1793, and amounted to ¹19 4s. 9d.
James -5 Pendleton married at Stoningham, Conn., 22 Mar 1731, Abigail-4 Brown. That she was the daughter Abigail-4 born 3 Feburary, 1712, of Eleazer and [11] Ann (Pendleton) Brown, is shown by the signatures of James Pendleton and his wife Abigail, appearing in the deed given 30 July, 1734, by the heirs of Ann (Pendleton) Brown, to Joseph and Edmund Pendleton, of all their rights in the estate of Capt. James2 and Major Brian1 Pendleton (Rockingham Co., N.H., Deeds xx, 227).
The children of James5 and Abigail4 (Brown) Pendleton were (first and last frmo Westerly Recs., others from Stonington Rec.): ..."

Everett Hall Pendleton (1910) states of him and his wife:
".. Eleazer Brown, son of Thomas and Mary (Newhall) Brown; he was bron 4 Aug. 1670, at Lynn., Mass, and died at Stonington, Conn., 30 Nov 1734.
Eleazer Brown and his wife made their home in Westerly and later in Stonington, in the part of that township which was afterward set off to form North Stonington. In the division of her father's property, Ann received his house as appears in teh following agreement of the heirs:"

[Long transcription omitted here.] Date: 11 Apr 1711. Abstract: Heirs Edmund Pendleton, Caleb Pendleton, William Walker and Nicholas Cottrill, all stated to be grandchildren of Brian Pendleton. In a 1674 deed, the grandfather, Brian Pendleton left them a tract of land in Westerly, R.I. Heirs have divided the land in this agreement into 7 parts. Eleazer Brown as the 3rd lot, which includes the house that was Capt. Pendleton's. Eleazer Brown got the land in a joint agreement involving the heirs of Capt. James Pendleton, in which he paid money to Nicholas Cottrill and William Walker (as he was instructed to do in the will of Capt. James Pendleton). The present agreement confirms that the heirs are all in agreement that all this has been settled.

"After the deaths of Ann and her husband [Eleazer Brown], her surviving children deeded to Edmund and Joseph Pendleton of Westerly, for ten pounds, all their rights in the estate of "our grandfather, James Pendleton, late of Westerly, and of 'Briant' Pendleton." This deed wassigned 30 Julu 1734, by Jonathan Brown, Elezer Brown, Thomas Main and Ann, his wife, Patience Brown, James Pendleton and Abigail, his wife, and Wait Palmer and Mary, his wife (Rockingham Co., N.H., deeds, xx 227)"

She is not mentioned in her husband's will of 1732, and therefore is presumed to have died pr ior to that date. Everett Hall Pendleton (1910) states that her descendants claimed she was age 60 at her death, which would place her death date at about 1728.

Thomas Brown

!Will: Dated and probated 9 Oct 1683: Nuncupative will of Thomas Browne, Register of Probate , Salem, Mass. Widow, Mary, administrix. Names: Eldest son Thomas, sons Joseph, John, Daniel and Ebenezer, and daughter Norwood.

He was buried in the Cedar Swamp cemetery. When the New London and Providence turnpike was built, the only access road to the cemetery was discontinued, so that there is no longer any access to this burying ground. Many early settlers of Stonington were buried there. Some headstones have been moved to Union Cemetery.

Error: The Brown genealogy, Vol., 1, p. 9, states that he was the son of Nicholas Brown. However, in Volume 2, he states that this is not correct.
