!Baptism: [John V. Reeb & Nell Taylor Norvell, "Reeb Roots in Europe and America", 1995, p. 16, 23; Bockenheim Lutheran Church Records]. In 1707, the lutheran pastor, Gustavus Herrenschmidt, copied the old baptismal record into his own churchbook: "Johann Peter Reeb, my beloved Godfather, was born at Pisdorf to Niclaus Reeb and Catharina, his wife. On 12 March 1654, Godparents were Peter Pfar of Domfessel, Johannes the servant of Governor de Brouze (de Broussey) and Elisabeth, Hieronimus Burgundisch's daughter". [ibid, p.23]
On 22 Mar 1668, Peter Reeb, age 14 years, was confirmed in the church at Pisdorf. [Reeb & Norvell, p. 23; Blockheim Lutheran Churchbook]
On 19 Dec 1673, "young Peter reeb from Pisdorf" was a godparent at the baptism of Christoph, son of Theobald and Kunigund Heckel. [ibid p.23; Wolfskirchen Church Book]
On 14 Feb 1678, "Peter Reeb" and his sister "Anna, the wife of Lorentz Krieger", were named in Wolfskirchen as witnesses to bap. of Peter, infant son of Niclass and Appolonia Lentz. [Reeb & Norvell p.24]
On 12 Nov 1684, "Peter Reeb from Pisdorf" was godfather to Anna Margaretha, dau. of Anstett Guth, Mayor of Domfessel, and his wife Anna Catharina Fleischer [Reed & Norvell, p. 26]. The father was Peter's brother-in-law.
1685: Louis XIV voided the Edict of Nantes.
1685-1698: At least two daughters were born to Peter and Margretha (Guth) Reeb during this time period. Catholic priests came to Pisdorf and attempted to convert the townspeople to Catholicism during this period, and baptismal records for these daughters were not recorded. It is unlikely that Peter and Margretha attended. [Reeb & Norvell, p. 25]
1697: Protestant ministers allowed to return to the region.
On 4 May 1698, Peter Reeb, "Innkeeper", was a godparent for the baptism of Margaretha, dau. of Johann Jacob Quirin and Margaretha Schamber at Pisdorf. [Reeb & Norvell, p.27]

On 17 Sep 1705, Peter Reeb was godparent to bap. of Anna Dorothea, dau. of Johann Nicolaus Eisenmann and Maria Magdalena Marx, Pisdorf [ibid. p.29]
!Marriage: Reeb & Norvell, p. 25: Johann Peter, younger son of Nickel Reeb to Anna Margaretha, a young daughter of Nickel Guth, Mayor at Rimsdorf, recorded in Lutheran churchbook at Wolfskirchen, 28 Jan 1679. On 7 Feb 1679, the marriage was entered into the churchbook at Bockenheim, which stated the marriage was performed by Rev. Johann August Hollar at Pisdorf.
!Death: Reeb & Novell, p.29, from Bockenheim Churchbook, 1708, translated as: "On 16 December 1708, Sunday evening at 6 o'clock, died in the Lord Jesus after suffering of a complicated illness for five days, the honorable and modest Johann Petri Reeb from Pisdorff, innkeeper and host, 54 years of age. May God show grace to this good and pious man."

------------------------
Excellent documentation on him appears in [John V. Reeb and Nell Taylor Norvell, "Reeb Roots in Europe and America, 1995, Chapter 1]. The following is taken from that source:
He was born at Keskastel in the Grafschaft (County) of Nassau-Saarwerden about 1620, although the exact dates of his birth and death are unknown. References to "Niclass Reeb" in churchbooks of Nassau-Saarwerden often state that he is otherwise known as "Nickel Stroh", leading some to conjecture that his mother's maiden name may have been Stroh. Both Dr. Gerhard Hein and Mrs. Trudy Schenk, two german born genealogists, have indicated the opinion that these records indicate he may have been born out of wedlock to Stroh woman, or at least for some other reason was connected to the Stroh family.
He lived during the 30 years war (1628-1648) in region where many of its battles were waged. A heavy rainfall caused crops to rot in 1642 causing mass famine in the year he was married, and in that same year, Croatian soldiers plundered the region further. His marriage record in the Lutheran Church at Bockenheim records "Niclass Reeb, son of Heinrich Reeb deceased at Castel (Keskastel)" and "Catharina, daughter of Hans Wuerth from Bistorf [Pisdorf]" [Reeb & Norvell, p. 13].
On 2 Feb 1643, the Lutheran Churchbook of Bockenheim named "Nickel Reeb from Kastel" (Keskastel) as godfather for the baptism of Maria Magdalena, dau. of Anstett and Margaretha Mueller from Harskirchen. [Reeb & Norvell p.13] (Harskirchen is 4 kilometers west and slightly south of present day Sarre-Union (old Bockenheim)).

The leading researcher on the Reeb/Rape/Rappe family is John V. Reeb. He is credited with id
entifying much of the family roots, and continues to research all Reeb families, both ancestry and descendants. He is the author of the excellent book:
"Reeb Roots: In Europe and America", compiled by John V. Reeb, edited by Nell Taylor Norvell, Gateway Press Inc., Baltimore, MD, 1994.
John V. Reeb can be contacted (and would like to be contacted by Reeb descendants and researchers) at:

Some Sources:
1. In May 1993, Nellie (Fisher) Karr sent me a 39 page descendancy listing for
Heinrich Reeb. In her letter, she named two heavily used sources: ["The
Early Settlers of Sangamon County, Illinois"], and ["The Rape Family of
Illinois"], both found through the Mormon Church. She also cited ["The
Cemeteries of Cotton Hill Township"] and ["Marriage Records from Sangamon
County, Illinois"]. The software she used to make the descendancy listing
showed only a name, birth year and death year for each individual. It
appears that modifiers like "before" or "about" might have also been omitted
from the printout. I attempted to correspond with her further in 1993,
but didn't hear back from her. (I have since rented the History of Sangamon
County and included all info from there).
2. Most (if not all) of the original research on the Europe side has apparently
been done by John V. Reeb, 927-B Taraval Street, San Francisco, CA 94116
(415) 665-0488. He sent me a copy of his book, ["Reeb Roots: In Europe and
America", 1995] in March 1996. The data from that book has not yet been
entered into this database.
3. Further sources for individuals are indicated in the individual notes for
descendants.
Some early records in the 1500s pertaining to the name Reeb in the Alsace region are discussed in [Reed & Norvell, "Reeb Roots in Europe and America", Introduction]. The marriage record of Johann Nicolaus Reeb, dated 6 Dec 1642 in the church at Bockenheim (now Sarre-Union) names the groom as "Niclass Reeb, son of Heinrich Reeb deceased at Castel" (Keskastel) [ibid, p.13]. This might or might not be the same "Hans' Reeb's children, Lorentz, Georg, and Christmann", that appear in a 1620 tax list for towns of Lorentzen, Herbitzheim and saar-Bockenheim, along with a "Peter Reeb" [ibid, p.7]. It appears likely that a Heinrich Reeb of Kescastle was a brother to Niclaus Reeb (and thus a son of this Heinrich Reeb). This Heinrich Reeb and his wife Margaretha appear as a witnesses for children of Niclaus (and vise versa) several times.
