Taken from the Records of Bischtroff Lutheran KB. Sponsors were Hans Peter Bader, the old church censor, Theobald Stroh from Wiebersweiler, and the Pastor's wife Louisa Salome Houssdorff.

!Immigration: Ship "Halifax" in 1752 [Burgert p.401]. Records in the county of Nassau-Saarwerden office for Pisdorf, dated 13 Oct 1758: "son Peter, 33 years old, has moved to Pennsylvania several years ago. One has no news". [Burgert 401]

Halifax arrived to Philadelphia on 22 Sept. 1752.

In his father's inventory, dated 25 Aug 1748, he is cited as Son Peter, 23 years old, coppersmith, single.

Note: Solid evidence does not exist that John Francis Rape(r) was a son. He enlisted from N.C. (name RAPER) and was killed in the war in Sept. 1779. He might not have been a RAPE at all.

"Samuel D., born Sept. 22, 1812 in Tennessee, married in Sangamon county, April 12, 1832, to Nancy W. Haines. They had seven living children (lists them) Samuel D. Snodgrass died Aug. 31, 1862, and his widow Nancy W., resides one mile east of New City, Sangamon county, Ill.

Administration: Names Nancy Snodgrass his widow, Myra Rape, Malvina Rape, George W. Snodgrass, Arstilla Snodgrass, John Sanford Snodgrass, and Samuel Newton Snodgrass -- (then there is a space) I.B. Williams his children. Executor: I.B. Williams. Isaiah B. Williams signed his name with an X, but got nothing in the settlement. Each child got $77.50, and Nancy got $193.77. Signed 13th Sept 1862, clerk N.W. Martin.

Christopher Haines

HAINES, CHRISTOPHER, was born July 4, 1795, in Russell county, Va. His parents soon moved to Allen county, Ky. He was married in that county, Oct. 12, 1815, to Myrah Gatewood, who was born June 9, 1797, in Alabama, and partly raised in Georgia. They had two children in Allen, and moved to Barren county, where five children were born, thence to Sangamon county, Ill., arriving Oct. 22, 1829, in what is now Cotton Hill township, where they had three children. Of their children -- [bios given]. Christopher Haines died March 29, 1850, and Mrs. Myrah Haines died Nov. 11, 1859, both on the farm where they settled in 1830. [p. 347]

The homestead they established in 1830 was in Cotton Hill Township at the Junction of Horse creek and the South Fork timber, ten miles southeast of Springfield, near New City, Illinois. After their deaths, their son James M. Haines resided there as of 1876.

Myrah Gatewood

Gothberg's descendants of "John and Amy Gatewood" claims that she is the daughter of John an d Nancy (White) Gatewood [RINs 24936,24937]. However, this is in conflict with the statement in the history of Christian Co., IL, where it states that her father was Roland Gatewood.

One would think that the claim of Roland Gatewood being her father would be reliable, since it was apparently stated by her son, it does appear to be the one in error. For the source of birth, Gothberg cites the family register of John Gatewood, which appears to be a reference to the old family bible that John's widow, Nancy Gatewood, exhibited 6 Oct 1835 while applying for her late husband's pension. If this is so, then it is clearly the source to be believed. (I certainly need to get copies of the pension papers myself, however, to verify what they contain).

Gothberg also cites DAR Vol. 83 p. 94 Jan 1949. Mrs Anderson of Muscatine, Iowa, repeats info from History of the Early Settlers of Sangamon Co., Illinois.

In addition to the above, there is no obvious fit between a Roland Gatewood and the known facts. The only Roland Gatewood thus far identified is the one b. 12 Apr 1790, who is Myra's brother, and is obviously too young to be father.

She was apparently b. in Alabama, although raised in Elbert Co. during her younger years until about age 13 when her family moved to Allen Co. Kentucky (which was part of Barren Co. until 1815).
