Will dated 27 Mar 1574, probated 2 Feb 1576.
After Thomas Wentworth of "Scrowbie Manor" died, then William Brewster Sr. took over the tenancy of the historic Manor.
Sir Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Stafford, was a descendant (prob. grandchild or great grandchild). He was a loyal servant of King Charles I, who had many disagreements with Parliament. An attempt was made to impeach Sir Thomas, but after he eloquently defended himself, those proceedings were dropped. However, in order to appease Parliament (and trade for other agreements), Charles I signed his death warrent, and he was beheaded. Again, note that this is in reference to the descendant.

He was enormously wealthy for the times, being called "Golden Thomas". He paid Henry VIII a large fine to be excused from accepting the "Order of Bath", and in 1528 obtained a license from the King to remain covered in the royal presence. This cost him a small fortune, but it must have given him a lot of personal satisfaction.

He succeeded his father as King when still a minor. His favoritism to foreigners led to resentment among his barons, who revolted against him and refused to finance his overseas campaigns. Forced to make substantial constitutional concessions by the so-called "Mad Parliament" (1258), he enlisted French and papal aid but the barons, under Simon de Montfort, defeated him at Lewes (1264). His son Edward's victory at Evesham (1265) enabled him to retain executive power while granting many reforms.

Notes:
King of England, 1154-1189.
He inherited the Angevin lands, obtained Aquitaine by marrying Eleanor (1152), and succeeded to the throne (1154). He reformed the judicial, monetary, and military systems, but his attempt to bring church courts under secular control through the Constitutions of Carendon (1164) failed. By the Treaty of Montmirail (1169), Henry secured France's sanction for his sons' succession to his territories and Prince Henry was crowned heir (1170). After the murder of Thomas a Becket (1170), Henry's life was beset by trouble with the Roman Catholic Church, revolts in Ireland and Normandy, and strife with his own sons.
Isabella of Angouleme was his second wife.
King of England 1199-1216.
Youngest son of Henry II, he had himself declared heir (1191) in Richard I's absence. His probable murder of his nephew Arthur (1203), territorial losses in France (1204-5), and aggressive acts against the church made him extremely unpopular. Excommunicated in 1212, he was forced to submit and enlist the pope's support against his enemies (1213). At Runnymede (1215) he was compelled to accede to his barons' demands in the Magna Carta. Thereupon John attacked his opponents. Civil war ensued, during which John died, possibly poisoned.

Count of Anjou (a province in France). Supposedly he wore a spring of a plant called "planta
genet", and this was adopted as the surname of him and all his English male descendants.

Notes:
King of England 1100-1135.
On William II's death (his brother), he was crowned king (1100). His elder brother Robert, duke of Normakdy, claimed his throne, but Henry defeated him and captured all his lands at Tinchebrai (1106). Henry married an Englishwoman and reformed the judicial and fiscal administration, but his reign was troubled by unruly barons, wars with the French and Welsh, and the death (1120) of his heir William.
