Notes:
Information for her comes from a phone interview of Grace (Rice) Edwards by Lonnie Chrisman
, Sept 2, 2002. This information includes the following: That her maiden name was Grace Lavinia Weller (not Barnum), that she died Aug 1, 1962 in Danbury CT at age 78, her birthday was in June, and that she lived on Middleriver Road, Danbury CT. Also, she may have been born in New Milford, CT. Grace Edwards said she was present when she died.
Note: The death certificate of Edith Grace (Williams) Rice listed her mother's maiden name as Grace Barnum. However, Grace Edwards confirmed that this was not correct. She says the name Barnum is in the family somewhere, she believed on David Williams' side of the family, but this was definately not her grandmother's maide name. Furthermore, since Grace Edwards was the listed informant for Edith Grace (Williams) Rice's death certificate, this correction should be deemed more accurate.

His reign was characterized by struggles with rebellious vassals. Although Henry was crowned by his father, Robert II, his younger brother Robert claimed the throne and was supported by their mother, Constance of Provence. In the ensuing civil war, Henry was forced to cede Burgundy to Robert. Henry at first supported (1035-47) and then fought unsuccessfully against (1054, 1058) William, duke of Normandy. He was succeeded by his son Philip I.
Ruler of Neustria and King of the Franks, 751-768.
The first Carolingian King. He deposed Childeric III (751), the last Merovingian king. He supported the extension of papal control and was anointed by St. Boniface in a ceremony of symbolic importance. Again anointed by Pope Stephen II (754), he defeated the Lombards on the pope's behalf. The new papal lands thus acquired were known as the Donation of Pepin. The close relationship between the pope and the Carolingian kings tied papal development to the West rather than to Italy and the East.
King Hugh of France from 987 to 996.
Succeeding his father as Count of Paris in 956, Hugh Capet thereby became the real ruler of the country, though the title of king still belonged to the Carolingians. When Louis V, last of the Carolingian kings of France, died without heirs in 987, Chalres, Duke of Lorraine, claimed the throne by descent.
At a meeting of the nobles and prelates of the realm, however, the crown was declared to be elective, and Hugh Capet was chosen king. He became at once the first French king of France and the founder of the famous Capetian dynasty, which gave to Europe 118 sovereigns.

Notes:
Birthplace is from the 1880 and 1900 censuses, where in both his daughter, Mahala reported he
r parents' birthplace as Kentucky.
He was probably born between Apr 10, 1788 and 8 June 1789, becoming a tithe in 1807 (i.e., having just turned 18 in 1807). He appears to be closely related to James Parker of Knox Co., KY (Bruce has since passed on information to me that John was the eldest son of James Parker, Jr.). The "Apr 10" part of the first date is based on fact that in subsequent years he was listed near James -- perhaps his brother James was a guardian.
A John Parker of the same age and location, son of Daniel and Susan Parker, is found at : http://members.tripod.com/~JDVanDerMark/Nellie.htm. Information now indicates that this is not the same John Parker -- that our John was the son of James and Charlotty Parker.
In the Neal family history, it is said that he came from Massachusetts, and was rumored to be the son of a John Parker who died Sep 17, 1775. Presumably, this was a reference to the famous revolutionary war patriot John Parker that died on that that date, was born on July 13, 1729, married Lydia Moore on May 25, 1755, was the son of Josiah Parker and Anna Stone of Lexington, Mass., and descended from Thomas Parker who was in New England as early as 1635. This appears to be incorrect and without basis. Descendants of the rev.war patriot can be found in "Genealogy and Biographical Notes of John Parker of Lexington and his descendants" by Theodore Parker, 1893.
1800,1801,1802: No Parkers in Knox Co., KY tax list.
1803: Parkers in Knox Co., KY tax list: Alexander (May 20), James (June 15)
1804: No parker listed in Knox Co., KY tax list.
1805: Parkers listed in Knox Co., KY tax list are: James (May 2), David (Jun 14), Robert & Wlliam (July 2), Moses (July 15)
1806: John Parker is NOT enumerated in Knox Co., KY tax list. However, several other Parkers are: Robert (Apr 5), James (Apr 9), Moses (July 2), William (July 18). He might still be a minor (?).
8 Jun 1807: John Parker listed on the Knox Co., KY tax list. (Note: In same county are James and William Parker)
5 July 1808: John Parker listed on Knox Co., KY tax list (In same county is James Parker, enum 4 July).
6 Jul 1809: John Parker listed on the Knox Co., KY tax list, along with James Parker.
Summer 1810: Settled, along with his in-laws, in what would become Jackson Co., Indiana.
1816: John Parker built the first jail in Jackson Co., and was paid $76.
1817: John Parker sat on the first jury in Jackson Co., IN
1819: Moves to what would become Bartholomew Co., IN.
!Census (1820): Delaware Co., IN [Now Bartholomew Co., IN], p. 32. 410010-22100-0100 or 410010-22110-0100 (The first reported in 1820 census of Indiana transcript compiled by Evelyn Cox. The second reported in 1820 census of Indiana transcript compiled by Williard Heiss). 4M(<10), 1M(10-15), 1M(26-44), 2F(<10), 2F(10-15), 1F(16-26), 0 or 1 F(26-44), 1 agric worker. Note: It is likely that Heiss's #s are the correct ones -- that Lydia is between 26 & 44.
Identiies of children in 1820 census:
4M(<10): Daniel K., age 6, William A, age 2, Napolean, infant, and John, age unknown
1M(10-15): James Jesse Parker, age 11
2F(<10): Mahala, age 7, ?Eliza, est. 9
2F(10-15): Julatha, 11, Polly, 12
Existance of son Daniel Ketchum comes from Hanneman's 1993 Ruddick Family in America book. However, the conflict with the birthdate given there for Daniel (11 Sep 1813) and the known birthdate for Mahala (19 May 1813) is noteworthy, since these are only 4 months apart, and thus cannot be from the same mother. This descrepancy must be resolved.
Note: There is a second John Parker listed in the 1820 census of Delaware Co., IN. In the alphabetical index you cannot tell which is which, but in the original enumeration order, it is clear that our John Parker is the one on page 32, not the one on page 20. On page 31 & 32 in close proximity are 2 Joseph Coxs, Christopher Jacob Peter and John Cox, John & William Riddick, and William & Thomas Raines. The other John Parker seems to be in much different part of the county.

Ruddicks of Benton Cty, Arkansas says that John Parker build the first Jackson County jail in 1816 and was paid $76.00. He served on the first Jackson Co. jury in 1817. He moved to Bartholomew Co. in 1819, and the first Bartholomew Co. elections were held in his home.
A letter from Sherrain Glenn to Leon Chrisman, Jan 1993, states that his inventory, John Parker of Iroquois Illinois, is dated 14 Apr 1823 and filed in Iroquois Co., 9.29.39-40.
The estate of John Parker was settled in Iroquois Co., Illinios, on 5 Mar 1827. Lydia was administrator of John Parker's estate and was named guardian of James, John and Daniel KITCHEN, and Eliza, Mahala, William and Napoleon PARKER.
Research lead: A Phineas Parker (b. 1790 NC, d. 1840 Sandcreek) purchased land in Bartholomew Co., Ind on 8/9/1822. His wife was Zilpha Coleman (b 1790 NC, d. 1846 Sandcreek). Notes:
Hanneman's 1993 geenalogy of the Ruddick Family places her family and her birthplace in Hawki
ns Co., in eastern Tennessee, a few years before the formation of the state of Tennessee, so her birthplace would have still been a part of North Carolina at her time of birth.
Her maiden name is claimed to be Reddick in the Neal family history, with birthplace North Carolina. However, her daughter, Mahala (Parker) Neal claimed in both the 1880 and 1900 censuses that her parents were born in Kentucky.
William Ruddick (1785-27 AUG 1852) m. Elizabeth Wilson on 25 FEB 1808 at Knox Co.,Kentucky, children: 1. Julia Ruddick (1810-ABT 1870), 2. John Ruddick (1812-1853), 3. Joseph Ruddick (4 AUG 1829-21 JAN 1915), 8. William R. Ruddick.
Lydia Reddick (4 JUN 1787-15 MAR 1858) m. John Parker (between Apr 10, 1788 & 8 June 1789-NOV 1822) on 29 JAN 1807 at Knox Co.,Kentucky, children: 1. Polly Parker (1808-1881), 2. !Family legend has it that George Washington supposedly mentioned John Reddick in his diary
. This is mentioned in the Neal family history, but the location of this reference remains unknown.
Timeline:
1775: He had 180 acres surveyed at the head of Gordon's Creek, later known as Ruddick's mill creek, possibly part of the original land claimed by his father in 1772. (After this date, he is never again involved with the Quakers)

circa Summer 1810: Moves to Harrison Co., Indiana.
1812. Harrison Co., Indiana [territory]. Decker's History of Knox Co., Ky, lists a record as follows: "John Ruddick and Catherine, his wife, of Harrison County, Indiana Territory, 1812".
Shortly thereafter they settled, along with a few Ruddick and Cox cousins, in what would become Jackson Co., Indiana. Their cabin stood in section 11 within the present town of Browstown.
8 Sep 1812: John & Catherine sold 1/2 of their Kentucky land to Randolph Adams for $300. They apparently neglected to pay taxes on the remainder of the land and several years later it was resold by the county.
John's property was locate about 100 yards south of the old Brownstown Cemetery. He soon built a horse-powered grain mill on this land, with a capacity of 50 bushels a day.
Jan 1816: Jackson Co., IN formed. John Ruddick, his son William, and Jesse Durham appointed overseers of the poor in the newly formed county government. The county seat was located on 150 acres of land along the south border of Mr Ruddick's land, purchased from John Ketcham. [Hanneman, 1993, p. 17]

These men were touring the area in search of a new state capitol. They ate breakfast at the Ruddick home, for which they paid 62 1/2 cents. The governor's party returned again on June 9th, stayed several hours and paid 37 1/2 cents for dinner.
!Census (1820): Delaware Co., Indiana (later Bartolomew Co., IN), p.31. John Riddick, 1M(>45), 1F(10-15), 1F(26-44),1 person in agriculture. Note that he is in close proximity to William Riddick [1M(<10), 1M(26-44), 3F(<10), 1F(10-15), 1F(26-44), 1 person in agriculture], a possible son; as well as Jaob Cox, Peter Cox, William Raines, Thomas Raines, John Cox, 2 Joseph Coxs, Christopher Cox, and John Parker.
9 Jan 1821: Bartholomew Co., IN formed.
13 Feb 1821: The first Bartholomew county commissioners were elected: William Ruddick (son of John), his cousin Jesse, and Solomon Stout.
15 May 1821: John Ruddick appointed overseer of the poor for the southern district (south of Columbus).
1821: Tax list of Bartholomew Co., IN lists a Jesse, William and John Ruddick.
16 Apr 1825: John Ruddick purchases 368 acres from John McCormick Jr. back in Jackson Co., IN, part of the estate of John McCormick Sr. who had died in 1820. They had been a neighbor to John Ruddick many years earlier, but it is not known why John purchased that land. It is assumed he probably sold it soonafter.
Winter 1825: Catherine dies.
Summer 1826: John and his son's family moves to Vermillian Co., Illinois.
15 Jun 1829: John dies there.
In Bartholomew Co., IN, there are land grants for a John Reddick and a Jesse Reddick. In the will book B p. 227, there is a will for Jesse Ruddick of Bartholomew Co., IN, "advanced in years" dated 1 Oct 1867 that names only his wife Melinda Ruddick. Perhaps this is a son?
The indiana state marriage index for Bartholomew Co. lists these marriages: * Jesse Reddick & Eliza Jane Swisher, 11-29-1832
* Lydia Reddick & Nathan Newsom 5-8-1827
He might be the John Reddick who m. Elizabeth Rice on 2 Jan 1764 in Tyrrell Co., North Carolina.
Also in Knox Co., Ky, I saw several mentions of an Elisha Ruddick. For example, on 8 Aug 1808, Elisha Ruddick served on the Jury for Commonwealth vs. James Daniels (for Larceny - found guilty). On 5 Nov 1805, Elisha Ruddick is on the county claims list, owned 1 pound 4 shillings "for killing two grown woolfs'.
His death is often given as 1829 in Vermillion Co., Illinois, but also often seen as 30 Dec 1851 Musingam Co., Ohio. (The Ruddick Family in America by John W. Hammeman, 1993, Oakland gives both dates in two different places without acknowledging the contradiction). The 1829 Vermillion Co. claim appears more plausible and consistent with the rest of the family's migration patterns.
