H. C. Reed
"The Old Settler"
Candidate for Sheriff
Roseau County
Ex-county commissioner, Henry C. Reed, of Badger is out as a candidate for Sheriff.
Mr. Reed has been identified with boosting and aiding in the development of his home town and county for over 20 years. The times takes pleasure in recommending him to the voters of the county for two reasons, one because he deserves it, and the other because he has always been a friend of the writer, true and faithful. Mr. Reed made a good commissioner. [Recommendation by paper's owner and editor]

In March 2005, Aunt Vera forwarded me a family tree she had received from Jana Knecktova of C
halupicha 689, Praha 4-14200, Czech Republic, who is a great great granddaughter of Jan Lipæs and Marie Gromann. Jana's tree identified Marie Gromann and John Lipæs, as well as Marie's parents. With Jan Jipæs, her tree lists locations Krejcâi, Ctinovec, and Roudnice. For Marie, it identifies her birthplace as Radeæsâin.
Teri K. Thorpe visited the archives in Prague, and looked up land records for Ctineves. She found a Seznam (list) for Ctineves in 1857 and shared the list with me in Sep 2002. On this list appear:
#32: Jan Libsch, house number 17
#33: Antonin Lipa, house number 1.
It appears that #32 is Jan Lipæs (note that the pronunciation of Lipæs and Libsch is virtually identical). Perhaps (this is just a conjecture), Antonin Lipa is Jan's father (?).

The following is from ["Garner-Keene Families of Northern Neck Virginia", by Ruth Ritchie an
d Sudie Rucker Wood", 1952, pg. 210-2]:
"Matthew Keene was perhaps the youngest child of Thomas and Mary Keene and was probably born after their arrival in Virginia about 1650 since no record has been found of a claim of headright for him. He moved to Stafford County.
His mother left him in her will one-half of 870 acres of land at Yeocomico in Westmoreland County. The other half was to go to her friend, Thomas Daniell. All this land apparently went to Matthew eventually as it seems to be the land which he deeded to his nephews, John and Henry Garner. (West D. & W. B. 3 p. 397). In 1705 George Eskridge of Westmoreland County was given power of attorney by Matthew Keene of Stafford County (West D. & W. B. 3, p. 398). Matthew Keene died in 1731. His will (Staff W. B. 1729-48, p. 26) dated July 21, 1723 and probated 14 Apr 1731, reads as follows:"

!Birthdate: In Reed family bible, her birthdate appears as 22 Jan 1838. In the Orrington to
wn records, under the family listing for Joseph B. Reed's family, her birthdate appears as July 22, 1838. In the Orrington town records, her birth certificate appears as "Hannah A. Bartlett, b. 22 Jan. 1837". A letter by Mrs. Irvin Noyes Gould (her granddaughter) to a Miss Baker was also found in the Orrington town records, and also identifies her birth record to be the one of "Hannah A", but that in all later records she went by "Maria A.". That record identifies her middle name as "Antoinette". Her sister Joanna E. appears to have gone by "Hannah E." in later records.
