* In 1880, a Michael Hoover, father-in-law age 79 [b. 1800 or 1801 PA] is found in the household of France J. and Margaret A. O'Brien, living at 1533 Fifth St. NW. This is notable because Charles E. Hoover, son of Samuel & Lydia, is living at 1515 Fifth St. NW. Makes a connection seem likely. This Michael Hoover is age 70 in 1870, Cattle Dealer, with Mary age 60 b. DC.
* 1830 Census (where we'd expect his father to show up) in Wash DC are listed: John (in Georgetown), Ad (Ward 1), David (Ward 1), John (Ward 3) and Michael (Ward 3). Note that Ward 3 would be closest to where Samuel & Lydia are found later.

BIOGRAPHY: HINCKLEY, SAMUEL-His English origins are shown by Elizabeth French,
"Genealogical Research in England-Hinckley," NEHGR 65:287, 314, 68:186).
He was of Tenterden, Kent, and came to New England in the Hercules in
March 1634/35, accompanied by his wife Sarah and four unnamed children.
He lived in Scituate, but apparently did not become a member of Lothrop's
church, for only his wife is shown as having joined, being recorded as
"Goody Hinckley" on 30 August 1635. They had a daughter Elizabeth
baptized at Scituate 6 September 1635 (NEHGR 9:281-82). Samuel became a
freeman 2 January 1637/38, and on the same date he was a trial juror (PCR
1:74). On 4 December 1638 he was among several men of Scituate who were
presented for receiving strangers into their houses without license from
the government (PCR 1: 106). On 4 June 1639 he was a grandjuror (PCR
1:126). Since his son Samuel was baptized at Barnstable on 24 July 1642
(NEHGR 9:282), it would appear that he accompanied Lothrop in the move
there. On 5 June 1644 he was a highway surveyor for Barnstable (PCR
2:72), a position he held many times, He dated his will 8 October 1662,
proved 4 March 1662/63, and he named his wife Bridget (second wife,
Bridget Bodfish); sons Thomas, Samuel, and John; daughters Susanna,
Sarah, Mary, and Elizabeth; his son Thomas's children Samuel, Mary,
Thomas, Bathsheba, and others unnamed; and Samuel and Jonathan Cobb, sons
of his daughter Cobb; and he named son

BIOGRAPHY: James Bishop lived in Duxbury and Pembroke, Massachusetts. He married
Mary Hudson on December 12, 1665. Mary's will was dated August 3, 1732
and was probated on July 7, 1740. It indicates that she resided in
Pembroke and that James had died prior to its writing. It mention her
sons John, Hudson, James and Ebenezer; her deceased daughters, Abigail
Bonney and Mary Lathley, and her still living daughters, Elizabeth Bonney
and Hannah Simmons.

BIOGRAPHY: Note: In his book, The Bonney Family, 1898, C. L. Bonney stated that John
and James Bonney both married daughters of James Bishop, the Deputy
Governor of the Connecticut Colony. This is not correct. Part of the
confusion is caused by the fact that both the Pembroke and New Haven
James Bishops had a wife named Mary and daughters named Elizabeth and
Abigail. However the New Haven James Bishop's daughter, Elizabeth, was
born May 3, 1657 (7 years before John Bonney) and on September 12, 1667
married Eleazer Giles and his daughter, Abigail, was born October 30,
1659 (12 years before James Bonney) and she married (1) John Talmage and
(2) William Maltbie. Mary Bishop's will is further proof of the mistake
by C. L. Bonney.
